New Spawn

Well it definately looks like he's had a munching session and not sure if the eggs in the tub are viable. Some are white and some have gone yellow. Will leave as it is for another 24hrs just to be sure and then condition them up again.

Maybe next time he'll have a better idea of what he's supposed to do.........which is NOT eat his babies lol

yarr, one of mine did that the first rtwo times, the thrird he realized the babys were dyin and he kept blowing the dean one up to the nest..... the next time he was the perfect dad and reaise 50 babys all on his own, guess they just need practice??

Aww bless him.....at least he got there in the end. I did see one dead baby float down to the bottom last night but he completely ignored it.

I'm glad that they at least spawned.....he just needs a little fine tuning now!!!

Better luck to him on his next go-round. They are a very lovely pair!
cheers!

Yay.......got a few fry hatching in the tub so will be interesting to see what the final count is. I don't think it will be many but who knows :D

Will try to get one before I tip them into the tank :good:

Oh, great you got some! Man... I can't believe those fish, they are so beautiful! I have never seen anything like them! Gimme! lol

They are gorgeous fishies Netty! *puts her hand up like a school girl* Do you drop her in when he makes a nest? So the nest is for holding the eggs? Who produces the eggs? Sorry im still new to bettas. Ramjet is continuing to build his nest as we speak. Im assuming the male splashes water onto the eggs to stop them from drying out?

Thanks Laura & Electric Yellow :good:

EY........The female is initially put into a chimney in the tank with the male. He should then start making his nest. Once the female is ready and released the female will go under the nest with the male and start nudging him (this can take from hours to days). The male then wraps around the female and she releases the eggs which he then picks up and puts into the bubble nest. They are under water so don't need any splashing.

Once finished the female is removed and the male looks after the eggs until the babies hatch and are free swimming.

Hope this helps a little :good:

So today we have a head count of 4   Syphoned out the rest of the eggs in the tub cos they had turned yellow and were no good. Will try to keep the little ones going if I can.

Here are two of them at 1 day old  Which one do you want Tibby :p
