So just a quick question,
I made a great deal on a 55 gallon acrylic (you will have to endure pictures soon), sanded and painted the stand to match my decor, washed and added some sand (basic playground variety) and am getting ready to do a fish-less cycle( I do have a member willing to send me some mature media so this should make it much quicker YAY!!).

Now my Question is I may not have washed the sand quite enough and have a bit of a cloud still present in tank, will this harm my canister filter in any way long term? will I need to rinse a sponge or two along the way or???

The pic's i warned you about
Just for the record, thanks to the advice found here I have lost zero fish in the tank on the left during a fish in cycle, not quite yet complete but oh so close ( well none but the ghost shrimp that was found on the filter intake ... I'm going to call that a suicide  )

btw those are all live plants in both tanks.. they are doing great too

You shouldn't have a problem just with that haze. The water in canister filters goes through the media before reaching the impeller, so as long as you have enough fine media in there, it won't harm the filter.

Nice tanks, btw :)

Thanks for the reply. good to know my impeller is going to be ok, and thanks for the compliment
After watching it for a day or so, and toying with the substrate,
I think I'm going to trash the play sand and get some pool filter sand.. the play sand kicks up way to easy.
I plan on a properly overstocked African Cichlid tank and although sand is likely best I want it to settle as fast as it gets kicked up.

A bit of dust in the water will not harm a canister that has a final layer of filter floss to polish the water. That polishing filter layer will keep the dust from getting to your impeller.
