This was my tank before i sign up to this forum and after a lot of hard work and following some great tips of here
many thanks to all the members on here that HELP me

and now its looking like this stand and hood all hand made. not to bad a job i think

still work to be done but i think its looking good but not there yet anyone got any ideas ??

A simple black back ground would go well with your tank hood and cabinet, looks stunning now

Thank you very much for your replys i was thinking of a blue background but what makes you say black ?
was looking at wood the other day but the bit i had before trun my water brown and hated it so bit worry about twisted roots as i dont want it to brown my tank as it now has two filters installed on it so 3000lph water is SO clear now !

The browning from wood is only temporary. Its the tannins leeching into your water, frequent water changes will reduce this, but it will continue to leech untill it has nothing more to leech out, and only time helps this. Most wood i've had has leeched initialy into the water. Its not harmfull to fish, and certainly if your keeping Amazonian fish they'll appreciate it temporarily. Wood will improve the overall look of your tank if you get the right size/shapes.

Black backgrounds look better, they have a far more natural feel. Blue tends to lose the depth and makes the tank look odd IMHO.

tank looks really nice without a backing to be honest! im curious though dont your silver dollars eat your plants ?

thay did eat them like mad but i found some plants thay don't touch now i have some plants for them to eat dont mind as thay are cheap ones and takes them about 2 weeks to eat them and it makes there skin shine like mad nice and healthy thay eat most of my plants before hand thor

i hope you sealed your wood. i had a homemade lid that i thought i sealed with about 5 layers of varnish, but apparently i didnt lid was covered in mould in less than a month.

yep all sealed the stand and lid took 2 days to seal it in full

just need to find some thing to place over the top of the tank like glass sheets to stop the water evaporate so fast

Great looking tank!

You can get a background which has blue on one side and black on the other.
Just need a bit of sellotape to secure it and change it round when you want to!

wow, what a transformation! Thanks for sharing! I think this is a great thread for people to see who are new to the hobby. It can be very easy to feel lost or give up when you see some of the gorgeous tanks that people have, when yours isn't anywhere close. You've proven that catching up can be done. Very nice I also think that a plain black background would help bring out some of the colours of the tank.
