 recently had gone out to by some specimin tropical fish we traveled all around upper england to come across a fish that was unusual.the shop keeper told me this loach was called a red orchid, and just been disscovered.I paid 30 pounds for this fish and after later inspection on the internet and local contacts i found no results on this RED ORCHID LOACH it was actually called Homaloptera orthogoniata (saddle spot loach) can any one tell me anything about this fish as i am told it still is hard to come by.

Going by my book it's still a very nice loach you have but here's some info for you...

It's not a current loveing species like other similiar loaches, it will grow to 12cm, prefers a neutral PH and 68-75F temperature.

I love loaches and not familiar with this one... looks pretty cool though!

Here is some info have found so far for you:
Form indonesia/thailand
omnivore
Inhabits forested streams with black waters
Grows to about 12/13cm
Likes ph 7
Tempreature 20 to 24
Hardness dh9

I would say its rare... have never seen one anywhere before....

I've seen them before, sold with hillstream loaches. I don't remember them being expensive.

the reason i paid so much for it is I was told it was ultimatley rare and only just been discovered.
He then went on to say that it had only came in stock a couple of days ago so i was lucky to see it.
p.s thanks for the info.
p.p.s please reply after reading this :D

Go back and make him give you £20 back or you'll report him for deception and theft :) amazing what people will do when threatened.

If he knowingly lied to you to get money off you, he has commited a crime.

Lesson learned, don't buy fish on a whim, especially if you don't even know what it is. :/ Sorry about you getting ripped off, but none the less; a very nice loach it is.

They had some of these loaches in wildwoods, enfield last time I was there. If I remember correctly they were about £6 each. Thats the only time I have ever seen them though.
