The Betta Bug Has Bitten... Resistence Is Futile
I haven't done any rescuing recently, but I thought I'd post about most of my rescues of the past 2 years. Please note that I do not have any of these fish anymore they have all since passed away or gone to new homes.
Ceasar
A person I go to college with contacted me telling me they knew I keep bettas, and that they had one they couldn't take care of him anymore and were wondering if I could take him, of course I said yes... Well when she gave him to me I was in complete shock he was in horrible condition... I just nodded and took him and left. He was flicking (had velvet) and wait till you see his fins...
He's doing better, not flicking anymore, since I treated his velvet.
Crispin
Crispin was found in a vase with another betta (Zane) at a local walmart. Hes the worst of off the two and is currently suffering from damaged fins and severe emotional damage. EVERYTHING scares him, and if he sees another male he starts shaking and won't come out of his cave. He has a long road to recovery ahead of him.
Zane
Zane was found in a vase with another betta (Crispin) at a local walmart. He's the better off of the 2, and just has a bit of tail damage. Hes currently living with a friend of mine who lives up the road, she picked him up yesterday.
Auron
I picked up Auron the same day I got Zane and Crispin. He was shoved way in the back of all of the bettas. He's a tail chewer and is suffering from a mild case of popeye.
Wilma
Wilma was given to me by a breeder who was planning on culling her because she lost an eye in an accident in her growout tank. So I took her in.
Splash
Splash was found in a cup in petco that was so filthy that you couldn't even see him through all of the algae and grime. He was suffering from a mild case of ICH, and has deformed pectorals which cause him to swim a big funny
I was in wal*mart and decided to check out the fish (the have really good prices on some of there fish and I was looking for a couple new otos) anyway I was walking past the bettas which are on shelves over top of the sink. When I looked over I saw a 1 gallon bowl in the sink, and to my complete horror discovered that there were FIVE male bettas in the bowl
two of them were dead 
I immediatly searched the store for some kind of compitant employee. When I found someone I dragged them over to the fish and demanded an explanation. They said that sometimes kids will dump males together and watch them fight, I told them I was aware of that, but those males had obviously been together for quite some time. And he didn't have a response for that.
Well needless to say I took the 3 remaining males. They wouldn't give them to me for free, but did discount them %50 percent because they were "damaged goods"
The male in the worst condition had open sores everywhere, he had no fins at all, was extremely pale and couldn't really swim at all. When I got them home he went into a shallow 1 gallon so he could get to the surface easily. he colored up a bit but never really even attempted to move, he just layed down at the bottom, about an hour later he was gone
The second boy was covered head-to-toe in fungus and open wounds, his dorsal and anal fins were pretty well intact, but his tail was gone. He came around a little when I got him home, but passed away about 4 hours later.
The third male, a lovely pink/purple veiltail, was the best off of them, he had ich, and a small patch of fungus on his head. But he had most of his coloring, no stress lines, and was happily exploring his 1 gallon quarantine tank. *fingers crossed* he'll make it.
Here ya go, he finds fun in flaring at the thermometor!! lol He's doing a lot better, you can see his icky fins though.
I went into the LFS as few weeks ago with the full intention of picking up the Healthiest looking betta that I could find... So I got over to the bettas (and they have them in those discusting things that hang inside the maine tanks that are like an inch wide that they get out of super easy) half of the bettas are in the maine tanks, one was terrorizing the guppies, one was hiding (scared to death) under the filter from the DRAGONFISH, one was in with the females, and there were even 2 in one tank, shredded, gasping and on the verge of death. Then of course in the little containers are all of these poor things that can't even move
So my hopes of getting a healthy betta were shattered (not because there weren't any healthy ones, but because I had to help one of the poo ones in need) so first I inform the guy working that 2 males were in together, he took one out and put it in a container, I told him his guppies would have no tails left, he took that male out, I told him he would end up with either a dead male or some dead females, he said they would be fine I told him the dragonfish would probably love a betta sandwhich, he glared at me and walked away So completely pissed off, I look at the bettas, and see one with gorgeous coloring, floating completely vertical, obviously miserable I couldn't take them all, he he seemed the worst off, (besides the 2 who had been fighting, but they looked beyond saving, at least I had gotten the guy to seperate them, 
) and luckily while I was there someone bought the poor little guy who was in with the dragonfish 
So I got the one boy who was swimming vertically. He's now 100% better, and the most personable betta I have ever met!!!

Ok, it wasn't exaclty a rescue, but she went through quite an ordeal never-the-less. about 2 weeks ago I went to the local lfs to see what new females they had, I ended up picking up lily (my red/white reverse butterfly ct) and a new cory. Well my car was in the shop so I had to take a taxi, no biggie, only 3 dollars to get from my apartment. So I get done shopping and call the taxi, driver says she needs run to albany, will be back in an hour and to call then. So my friend and I (he took the taxi with me, lol) decide to walk next door to arbys and have dinner. Well I call the taxi back in an hour (@ 7 ) no answer, I try back every 10 min for the next 2 hours. Finally @ 9 we decide to walk back to my apartment (about a 20 minute walk) So we step outside and its literally -10 degrees out. I'm wearing pj pants and a tank top with a hoodie, and I have no way to keep the fish warm. So 20ish minutes later we get back to my apartment, I take the fish out... both "dead" water is like ice
I was devestated, but just to be sure I floated their bags in the nice warm tank, and Lilly moved!! First she just twitched a side fin, then did a little hop, 15 minutes later she was swimming around like nothing had ever happened It was literally a miracle!!! Unfortunatly I lost the cory cat Damn taxi service
