my new L200 hasnt been as active as the other 2 which is to be expected really until its found its place in the tank but today i found him looking like this

sunken eyes and almost like a pit starting to form near the dorsal and white parts appearing around the fins.

gutted for him as they are stunning fish, i just hope whatever it is it hasnt spread! 50% water change done immediately and a few smaller ones over the next few days i think.

none of the other fish seem to have anything on them so im crossing my fingers its just this fish that effected.

any idea what it is?

Doesn't look too healthy at all!

Is he in a heated tank? Judging from a quick google frequent water changes, temp of 30 degrees and some general meds should help. Low flow is advised to allow him to use all energy on recuperating.

As a side point, how large to L200s get? Would like to get one to go alongside my 2 bristlenoses but don't want to overstock my 200L tank.

oh dear is he not eating as well Matt? hard when they go like that, ive read in past garlic soaked food might tempt them to eat?

Poor catfish! I'd definitely isolate and if you have not found anything on treatment yet, post on PlanetCatfish for some advice.

The dorsal disclolouring almost looks like "cauliflower disease" (but I could be way off here), I suspect the sunken red eyes is a far more serious matter in the very short term.

well the poor guy is still alive even though i dont have a spare tank to treat him in. hes currently in an ice cream tub with an air stone as plenty of fresh water. he is still eating though which is a good sign.

none of the other fish seen effected by this.

i was thinking about it today and when i bought the fish the shop owner did handle the fish and held it by the dorsal, im wondering if she cut it somehow when doing this and its got infected. it was a new shop for me so i dont think ill be returning there.

it almost looks bacterial to me.

just got in from work and the poor little L200 has died

such a shame as he was a stunning fish as all L200 are.....

well i know not to go back to that lfs again!

ive rang the supplier just to warn them incase any others have the same thing and to keep an eye out on them.

they have offered a full refund or exchange as well next time im their way.
