So I've just purchased a used Juwel Rio 240l off ebay and I'm trying to figure out what to put in it.

Ive currently got a breeding pair of Bolivian Rams in my original Fluval Roma 125l which will be moving over to the new tank once it's up and running (it's already cycled). I'll be setting the temperature at around 79F and I plan to use sand as my substrate and have this tank moderately planted with lots of hiding places and cover.

I really want a large school of Cardinal Tetra, maybe around 15-20, as they look beautiful. I'm also contemplating a pair or maybe harem of Apistogramma's (Something like Double/Triple Reds, Bolrelli's or the hongsloi genus), although I'm unsure as to whether the Rams will become territorial towards them in a tank this size.

Apart from the Bolivian Rams and Cardinals I'm open to suggestions as to any other species that anyone recommends within this environment.

Thanks in advance.

I'm looking at a similar setup to yours.

Currently I have 5 bronze corys and 11 neon tetra.

I would recomennd a few corys. They eat any leftover food and are always active.

I am also looking at 6 hatchet fish for the upper levels of the tank and 6 pencilfish 'Beckfordi' for a different school from the tetras. Might up the numbers slightly if I have room.

They are all S. American (I think!). I'm trying to keep a slightly natural stocking....

Anyway I would look into hatchets and pencilfish as possible additions.

Just to update, I'm currently cycling the tank.

In the meantime I've been trawling the forums and google for possible new additions once the cycling process has finished.

I have a "MAJOR" dilemma. I really like the look of the Rotkeil Severums and I would love to keep one. If I was to add a lone juvenile would it co-exist with the 2 Bolivian Rams once the Sev is more mature or would I need to up the number of Rams. Also would the Appisto's be out of the equation as a result of adding a Rottie?

I'm also torn between a large school of Cardinals or Harlequin Rasbora's.

Any ideas...

Here's a pic.

Well after a couple of weeks deciding on an ideal stocking, how does this sound?

1 x Rotkeil Severum
2 x Bolivian Ram
10 x Bleading Heart Tetra
10 x Sterbai Cory
1 x Pearl Gourami (not sure whether to add this)
6 x Boesemans Rainbowfish

I checked on www.aqadviser.com and it says I'll be slightly overstocked (107% stocked I think it was).

I have 2 x 1000lph externals running though, so this shouldn't be a problem should it? I also plan to do water changes of around 30% every 5 days.

Any feedback regarding this?

What happened to the cardinals plan?

I'm not sure they would be compatable with a Sev?

Sorry I can't help you on that one, I have no idea. A large group of cardinals does look amazing though...

No worries.

I know, I really wanted some cardinals however after seeing the Sev's I really want one of them as a centrepiece fish. It's a shame they don't appear to be a good combination from what I've read. I know I could probably risk it, but the last thing I want is any casualties.

Thanks for the response.

From doing a little research, it's apparent that the deeper bodied tetras would be more compatable with the Rottie, which is why I revised my orinal stocking idea.

Thanks for confirming this Carlove1.

C A R L O V E L 1 :look:

Its ok. The BH tetras you want to get should be fine as should Colombian Tetras, Congo Tetras, African Longfin Tetras...
