HI nice forum and i just picked up the hobby... I started my first tank is 20g with goldfish ive had them a few months and then decided to get something bigger and try diffenent fish. I ended up with a 150g now. I just got it set up and will be looking for advice. I started with 2 baby oscars they are about 2" now. I plan on added a pacu and an eel but i still undecided what to add with the oscars...

thanks again

Welcome to the forum!

If you haven't already, take a look at the beginner's resource center. It has some useful information on cycling a new tank and fish selection.

There's a whole sea of information to take in, and I'm still reading up on stuff myself. So much to learn, so little time!
I wish you the best of luck with your new aquarium. A bigger tank means a wider variety of fish you can keep, but also means bigger (more gallons of water) water changes!
Just keep that in mind.

Cheers!

Hi and thanks for the quick reply im about to check out that link you sent

Hello dullramcbrn

There a friendly bunch here who dont bite, im sure someone who knows about oscars will drop by soon and give you more info. I have never had oscars before so cant help. but welcome to the forum, always nice to see new people here.

Hello I'm new here as well. Just got my tank last week . And am enjoying my babies

Oscars are great fish! They are very personable. But...(There's always a but) they can be very messy and destructive. These fish can break heaters, aquarium tops and decorations. They love to play. If they get bored, they can get destructive. I found that plastic tops for the tank are best if you have oscars. A titanium heater will be better also. Mine used to attack the red light on the heater whenever it clicked on. This may not be a problem with a 2" oscar, but it's a big problem with a 8" oscar. If your oscar gets bored, drop a pingpong ball in the tank. They love to play chase with them.

hold fire on that pacu - potential to get massive so even a 150g is unlikely to meet its needs.
