New Filter Media Time

I'm now at the stage where I need to change my various filter media. The white filter gets changed every 3 weeks. I need to change the green, black and 2 blue filters. What's the best way to do this? I know the various media take time to adjust to the water and build up the bacteria levels so how do I do it?

there is no need to change the sponges. they will work till they fall apart! HONEST

I'd remove the black ones and pop in some blue to replace them, though.

Yes, agree with boboboy. Sponges can be wonderfully tough and last for decades without replacement (much to the disappointment of the retailers and manufacturers, but to your gain!) All that need be done is for them to be squeezed out in tank water (never use tap water on the media!) I'd gradually replace both the black sponge and the green sponge with blue ones though, as neither of those is needed on an ongoing basis. Even the white polyfloss or whatever the white thing is can likely be squeezed out and re-used for a bit. It will probably need replacing much sooner than the blue sponges though and usually cheap polyfloss can be used.

Never ever replace more than about 1/3 of your filter media at once. The bulk of the hard-won beneficial bacteria need to remain stable for continuity of the biofilter.
