looks awsome!!!!!!!! id really like to see a pic of feeding time! :good:

Might not be a feeding time if I can't fix this nitrite problem... it's all changed now anyway because I had to take rocks out to find any dead fish.

hmm weird...I have no clue why thats happening are you sure these rocks might not be leeking nitrates into ur tank? did u buy them from a petshop?

I've been doing water changes for 2 years now on other tanks but this one is just a real crappy one! How do you do 40% in 20 minutes?

The bacteria was alive because the filter was only off for about an hour between me picking up the tank, getting it home and setting it up! Plus, it's been running for 3 weeks with fish in without any spikes :/

Hi sorry to hear about your troubles. Re the water changes I purchased a Python Syphon before my tank was even set up as I like to make my life as easy as possible. I can do a 20% water change in 15mins or less with it. They are a bit pricey but here is a link for a diy version. Trust me it will save you loads of time and bucket humping. Hope your tank gets sorted soon. :good:

Diy Python

:yahoo: :yahoo: PYTHON WATER CHANGING

:yahoo: SYSTEM BABY!!!! :yahoo: :yahoo:

If you can, run rightout and get one or as cheffi said, make your own, I know folks that get the stuff from waterbed supply places too. what ever you do GET ONE!!! :D

BUT!!!!... always pay attention to it, their so easy and quick that once I've had fish flopping around because I forgot it and twice I've over filled a tank and on to the carpet because it fills fast LMAO

talk about an "oh chit" moment hahhaha

A bit off topic and maybe a stupid question but does the python fill the tank from the tap if so what about treating the water.

Treating water is not essential. A few people have tested it and found not treating the water didn't make a difference on a mture tank. Though nearly everyone does treat the water, with a dechlor. Just add the treatment at the end, after filling the tank.

:X oh jeeeze

and what about gill burns JAYJAY???

adam, you ALWAYS add the dechlor BEFORE putting in the new water, this is also why I advise using PRIME by SEACHEM it can be over dosed and abused basicly, not to mention it's extremely economical because it's 2 drops per gallon, I myself use 3 drops. I buy it by the liter its that good!!! I also prefer to let the fish develop their own slime coat instead of some funky man made one out of aloe vera or some other crap, most products out there I've found leave a slimey feeling to even the decorations and glass but prime does none of that, it aids the fish in making it's own slime coat. which promotes a strong immune system and thats best of all!

Yup, i've been on their website but you can't order the actually system from them (only spares)... I doubt my LFS will stock that :/ Does anyone know of any UK websites that sell the entire system? Any ideas on cost?

Cheers :good:

Mamafish gill burns from what........ it's clean water, if it has heavy metals I could see a problem. Chlorine gases off in minutes, chloramie (sp.) joins with ammoina/ammonium which is use by the filter bacteria.

I add dechlor after the water change sometimes. I see no difference.

EEek as mama says, you syphon the water out, stop, put your dechlor in and start filling. Thats the way I've done it and no probs. So easy you will wonder how you managed without one. I really don't think that for the price of pond dechlor it's worth risking not putting any in too see what might happen.

Here, I got mine from aquatics online. The best price I could find. You get different hose lengths depending on how far away your tap is.

Python

I use a Python aswell I don`t what I`d do without it, aquatics online again.

As for the water I add before but I doubt it makes much difference and I`ve heard many accounts of people using no dechrlorinator at all with no ill effects, not something I`d try though.
