New Betta!

I would also like to add that the only reason it comes off as an attack is by her reaction (being defensive). Reading back through all this, it's obvious to me that nothing would come off as horrible as some people think it did if she hadn't of flat out said "no!". So, we continued to give her advice...Just advice, and I don't feel anyone was rude to her at all. I don't see any harm in that.

Woah.....guys, I said DROP IT. This is my topic, and I didn't want this to become a 'zomg your bowl is too small'. I'm not even going to reply or read any psots from now on that have to do with the fishes bowl. They are happy and healthy, and thats all I care about right now. And didn't you hear me? I said I WAS GOING TO TALK TO MY PARENTS ABOUT IT! Ok? They are currently thinking about the issue right now. I talked to them about it yesterday, but they got mad that I brung it up again.

Anyhow..........my friend needs some advice with her fish. She has no idea how to entertain him! She puts plants in there, pebbles, gravel, seashells........but he doesn't seem to be interested and he's always bored. Any ideas on how to keep her fishy friend occupied?

There are many ways to enrich your bettas life.. You could, if it suits, gets ghost shrimp and add one or two to his bowl. Either they become a tasty live snack, or a source of entertainment. They're a negligible addition to the bioload of your tank, so you can add one or two to something the size of your bowl, I'm sure. You should also hold up a mirror and let him flare at himself for atleast 15 minutes a day - ish.
Another thing she can try is when she does WCs, she can rearrange his bowl completely, add new decorations (the seashells are a good idea if your GH is very high), another thing she should try is vary up his diet to include other live delicacies, like black worms, and mosquito larvae (Only that which you breed yourself or buy, don't go scooping out of ponds or anything).
I hope that helps. :)

Okay, just got enough motivation to read six pages of stubborness and sarcasm. Now honestly. Dibari handled it very well, being calm and rational but some of you guys over did the eye rolling smilie a bit!

i'm done replying on this thread since so many people are rude (once again, general terms, i don't feel like going through and looking up every person who i feel was being rude since i can't speak in general terms . there's a difference between saying "she" and "you guys". i was speaking in plural terms. next time, i think i'll go through and name everybody who fits my opinion

See? :p

I do know how it feels to have parents like that, some of you parents might not understand but not everybody sees the way you do. However I have to agree that she should do something. Think about this, you're changing 1/4 of a gallon every two days but if you get a two gallon only bi weekly, 85%. You don't lose too much water, do you? Plus they'll love you for it. Or if you can't do that, rehome them. Put fliers up at the pet shop for them. I know this sounds silly and I bet your parents won't let you do it, but it's worth a try. :good:

your parents suck. i agree with everyone who was against your thread. :hyper:

I think we all do

I do feel bad for your betta, but since there's nothing more I can do about it... I'm not going to talk about the tank size anymore. I do wish you luck on getting your parents to let you get a bigger bowl. :good:

So... for your friend, there are many things she can do to make her betta happy:
-Completely rearrange the tank, maybe add some nice caves or tunnels that the betta can swim through and "explore"
-She could try moving his bowl every week-so that the betta can see things from another viewpoint :p
-Putting a mirror in front of the bowl for 10-15 mins could help.
-Some people have put flosting rubber balls on top of the water and sometimes the betta will push these around with his "nose"... the same goes for marbles at the bottom of the tank, although not all bettas will play with this.
-also, he may seem bored because the water temperature is low, she could try getting a heater if it is.
-lastly, a tankmate like a snail or a shrimp (sometimes becomes a snack  ) might perk up the betta a little more.

dependin on the tank size and the bettas temperment she could try getting afew cory cats, shrimp, snails, or ottos. redecorate the tank or move it...... marbles or a ping pong ball even.

Not possible in this situation.
Except for the shrimp

Cory cats need to be in groups of 3 or more, preferably 6 ish.
So they need a 10 gallon ish by themselves.
Snail need 2.5 gallons to themselves (massive poop machines)
and she only has 1/4 gallon bowls..

I can guarantee if she got a snail, her betta would be dead by morning.

Since the betta she's referring to is her friend's, and we don't know what size tank the betta is in, snails might be an option depending on the tank size.

I hope that I made the right choice here.

After many longing hours discussing the Betta issue with my parents, the agreed to let me get a spilt 2.5 gallon bowl.
They ordered one online, and will be here in around a week's time (probably about 5 buisnuss days).

So there. I hope this is better for my Betta's! Now, since they shall be moving into their new home fairly soon, let's just drop the whole bowl issue and move on.

How about we talk about how are Betta's are doing? :hyper:

**Sorry for making this post immature...I was just very tired and grumpy when I posted it, and I didn't mean for it to sound harsh or anything.**
