would you say there are too many fish and ive over stocked it for the size of the tank?????

cheers for all the advice youve been a great help

Its definately not the worst stocked tank I've seen, but it is full at that IMO. It is a stocking that is maintainable though, so as long as you keep up with maintanance you should be fine assuming everyones compaible. I say this as I am unsure of the tempraments of alot of those fish.

The only ones i think may have bad temperment are the tiger barbs which ive had no problems with and the yellow cichild which may have to go as he gets bigger. touch wood since the parrott fish have been removed there have been no problems with any of the fish

latest tank levels just for info

Ammonia - 0.25

good good :hyper: at last looks like the filter media did the trick this time, was a bit worried last night when i did a change as the nitrite level went back to 0 when i checked them an hour or so after the change.

any idea how long it takes for the nitrite to spike and then reduce to 0? Just curious as its been a long 2 weeks of constant water changes so far lol

Both questions without answers here I'm afraid. Every tank is different. With mature media it could be anywhere between one day and one month to fully cycle, and nitrite could potential spike between where it is now and off the chart high. Only time and water tests will tell :good:

I had a feeling that was going to be the answer.

i shall keep you informed of the progress :thanks:

quick update, tank readings have been as below since the end of last week with no spikes, the water hasnt been changed since last friday as the levels have stayed stable

Ammonia - 0 to 0.25
Nitrite - 0 to 0.25
Nitrate - 10 to 20

I new something would have to go wrong eventually during the cycle process, took some readings this morning and got the following which isnt too bad, i will do a 50% water change tonight to bring the ammonia and nitrite levels down a bit

PH - 7.6
Ammonia - 0.5
Nitrite - 0.5
Nitrate - 20

The problem is a few of the fish are acting a bit strange, my large 3 spotted gourami has what looks like a blister on his head which other fish keep picking at, he seems ok in himself although he is a bit slower than normal.

One of my Golden gourami is acting very strange though and is quite often vertical at the bottom of the tank, other times he is swimming about and feeding as normal ????

And lastly and possibily the strangest, one of my upside down catfish has slowly been loosing its colour over the last few days and this morning is almost white apart from the black markings on him, hes feeding ok and seems fine in itself but i have noticed its belly is massive compared with the other UDC i have ????

Sounds like a bacterial infection to me. Interpet are a good brand, and I have used their meds before to treat thos problem myself previously.

Other than that, things don't look too bad. The bad news is though, that the anti-internal bactirial meds will slow the cycle  Nothing much to be done though....Unfortunately, whatever med you use though, the fish showing loss of colour and large bellies, probibly can't be saved, so you may need to consider euthanisation on them. The one with a blister though, should be curable :good:

More recent problems, such as this, usualy attract a better responce, with their own thread BTW, so next time, if you open a new topic for these issues, you may get help more quickly :good:

Yeah i realised once posted i should have started a new thread, if things get worse i will do.

Thought it might be a bacterial infection so i started using Interpet Anti fungus & Anti Internal Bacteria last night so fingers crossed. Hopefully the cycle wont slow up too much, and my UDC will be ok, hes one of my fav fish :(
