Never go to a pet shop on a whim, is the lesson I just never learn.

Today I went to my local pet shop, which I don't usually because normally they only have a few common fish and a lot if cichlids which don't interest me. But today I went there just on the off chance they MIGHT have some Pacific Blue Eyes. Sadly my guess that they wouldn't was correct, but what they had instead I was instantly in love

I had heard mention of Dwarf Neon Rainbows in the past, but had never seen them for sale and never in my area. So I was blown away to not only get to see some but also be in the position to get all 6.
They seem to have settled in well with my threadfin rainbows and now the whole lot are loosely shoaling together cruising the length of the 4ft tank weaving in and out of the plant life.
So presenting my newest additions
First picture in the bag acclimatising

And loose

As they settle in further and once my camera is charged again I will try to get better photos.

:)

Excellent choice, I have long been a fan of Rainbows and Dwarf Neons are lovely, especially with threadfins.

Can't wait to see if they colour up a little more once settled in.

Nice fish.

Never go to a pet shop on a whim,
Its how I ended up with a female Betta.

I have a shoal of Dwarf Neons and they are absolutely gorgeous fish.  My favourite Rainbows I think.

Congratulations :D

I managed to escape from the pet shop with a couple of moss balls at the weekend.  I was starting to get worried as the other half was talking about Chinchillas and rabbits.

I'm actually going one better this weekend, going on a 5-6 hr drive one way for a bird sale, but of course while I am in a different town I will also see what fish are on offer

It's only reasonable to do so, after all, they may have some different stock :)

Which bird?  Hope it's cheap ;)

My other half travelled to the other end of the country and stayed over when it came to picking up our latest pup.  I was just the mug who had to stay behind with all the others.  I think she went that far so I couldn't make her take him back, lol.

They look good Baccus. Do keep us updated, I've been considering getting some neon rainbows myself

The bird sale is ornamental birds, I am hoping to get quite a few species of finches to restock my aviary, which is going to get expensive besides the cost of fuel and accommodation.
I will keep you up dated, as they mature more fully I am hoping that I have the right combination of males and females. They certainly are stunning fish and like most rainbows and blue eyes frustrating in trying to get a good photo of them showing off their best colour. They really are adverse to sitting still.

Do you have zebra finches?  They're my absolute favourites!

Neon Rainbows can be pretty hard to tell apart.  All the females I've had have always had deep orange fins which is almost a red.  Typically the males have the red.  I've heard females can have yellow fins but none of mine ever have.  You can tell by the body shape as they mature as well but that can again be less distinct in the young fish.

I do actually have zebras but not the wild type only charcoal zebras. Actually the zebras have become a bit of a plague with the other finches so I moved them to non-breeding section of the aviary with the cockatiels.

Even though the rainbow fish are still only young I think I can see at least 3 females and a certain male. Time will tell, and if needs be I hope if I need more females or males I hope I can get more. They really are not common in my area or even any of the online fish sale sites I know of.

Beautiful fish Baccus can't wait to see more pics.......They are a native to New Guinea aren't they?

They certainly are native to Papua New Guinea.
I have been trying to get better/ more pictures but they either wont sit still or are on the wrong angle to the tank light and look washed out. But in the flesh they are truly stunning.

Oh I know that all too well, My betta thinks its funny to move just when I have focus and settings right.

Not the clearest of pictures but still gives you an idea of their amazing colour.
