How long does it normally take for the nests to be built?

Are there stages, becasue my gourami has a single layer of small bubbles and he's got them all over the tank. (Might be because of my messing with the tank to keep him from hurting the female too much.

What type of gourami do you have?
It usualy shouldnt take over a day to make one, but you should keep out of the tank untill the female lays the eggs.

It's a Dwarf. Actually, it turns out they bred without a properly built nest! Now I've got around 20 fry which I was totally ill-prepared for.

maybe next time it would build a better nest if it had an anchor. i read it on a betta site that they build better nests when they have an anchor

I had plants in there, but the gourami chose to build its nest elsewhere.
