Thx Juan..
I would have let the parents keep their egg if there hadn't been 9 other fish/shrims in the same tank. The parents would be overwhelmed by the tank mates. I have 3 guarami, 3 neons, 1 siamese algae eater, and 2 japanese shrims. I know I have smashed the rule of thumb ( 1 inch of fish / 1 gal) by the factor of 3. But, the fish are very happy and active. I think the reason is my tank is very heavily planted which greatly help the ecological system.
So excited.. I have a lot of experience in breeding fish at home. But I always let the parent do the job. Now, i am at school. I have only set up a 10 G tank.(A bigger one will be a burden when i change apartment.) This is the first time i "actually" breed cichlids. In the past two days, I was looking after the eggs very closely. I use an eye droper to blow water through the eggs, remove the dead ones, and clean the good ones.
The eggs is now hatched. However, only 30% of the eggs survive. The rest were lost due to fungus. The parents could have done a better job faning the egg than me. =( But as i said the tankmates would eat the fry if i hadn't isolate them. I start feeding the fry with Liquifry now.
