In all of my outdoor tubs (meant for my livebearers to keep in during the better months of the year), I have a daphnia culture. With the speed of reproduction of daphnia, I'm ensured to have sufficient food for my fish outdoors. But besides daphnia, also mosquito larvae are in ther solely by nature each year. Those mosquitos lay their eggs in there and once they hatch, they're food to my fish. So basically, I don't have to feed my livebearers outdoors.

It's a good sized tub. Most people who talk about doing that want to use a small barrel or a 20 gallon box. Don't you wish we could run these things year round (where I am I could keep hardy fish outside for maybe 3 months...).
