Nano Tank Help

I have a 35 litre nano tank that is running but it's not exactly doing anything. Thinking of creating a lightly planted tank and stocking it with a few fish. Have seen some Mosquito Rasboras in my lfs and was planning on these. Would these be ok? Was also considering some orange shrimps... Good combination? Thinking black sand, black background and a few plants, Maybe some Java Fern and Java Moss on some bogwood as decor?

If anyone could suggest some better fish to stock it with then that would be great.

The tank sounds perfect for them. They only get to about 1" so a big shoal of 10 or so should work with a few shrimp and maybe even 3-4 ottos or aslong as you go for plants like java fern and mosses that cant be uprooted 4-5 Hara jerdoni would work brilliantly.

Oh and as a centre piece something like a pair of Badis would work.
So
2 Badis
10 Mosquito rasbora
4 Hara jerdoni
Is what i would go for.

Thanks, i love your tank suggestions, i find them very interesting.

I will look into Badis and the Hara Jerdoni (never heard of that one!) and see if i would be able to source some. Would i be ok to start off with the Mosquito's and the shrimps forst of all then add the rest as and when i can?!

Yeah should be fine. They all only get to about 1" so theres not going to be a problem with adding some later. There not the most common of fish but can be found fairly easy, most lfs will be able to order them in. Theres loads of types of Badis but the most common ones and probabaly the best suited tot this tank will be Badis badis, Scarlet badis or Black Tiger Badis

Wouldn't the mosquito's just get nailed though? I suppose I could add the g's when the rasboras were fully grown?

Sparkling gourami only get to about 2" and i think they would struggle to eat a fish 1cm long let alone one half there size.

I wouldn't put Otocinclus in a tank of this size, sustaining food for one will be hard enough let alone 3 or 4, I'd recommend upping the Gourami's to 6 and then not bothering with the Oto's, Sparkling Gourami's are very social Gourami's and do much better in larger groups.

hats fair enough, although if you ask most lfs will order them in. But yeah that stocking looks fine. I would leave the Shrimp and Ottos till last unless its already a mature tank.

Thanks for the advice. So leave the otocinclus then and up the gourami's to 6. Maybe I could ask my local MA to order me 4 in? The filter is mature but if I am changing the gravel to sand then the tank setup itself won't be... so I could just get the sand and set it up, following day add the rasboras... I don't think my usual lfs has the sparkling gourami's in so may have to order them too?

Then wait how long to add the shrimp?

As long as the tank is cycled fully you should be fine to add everything at once, the B.briggitae, Sparkling Gourami's and Shrimp.

The substrate doesn't just determine maturity in my opinion, it will account for a small fraction of it, the remaining biofilm on the glass and other surroundings will still remain.

Would all this affect the bio load on the filter though?
