Clown Loaches do have scales on there body its only the head region that they don't have scales.

Do you know any myths if so please take part.

Here a list.

Adding a tablespoon or two per 5 gallons of 'Aquarium Salt' magically 'reduces stress' and keeps disease away. edit: Oops, that's already in the link, I typed before the link was added. That's a good page there.

Catfish cant deal with salt because they have no scales.

Fish don't grow to the size of the tank.
That kind of depends though, alot of fish do appear to stunt, while others just keep growing if they get enough food.
I wouldn't call it straight out myth'

yeah but do they not keep growing on the inside? or something? either way, you cant get an aro and put it in a 10gal and say "its okay, it'll only grow to the size of the tank"

Two contained on the page

You need to cycle with fish - not true, is acctualy detrimental. A fishless cycle should be done wherever possible, or a tank clone.

You cannot cycle untill you have fish - sort of covered in the preious one but not quite. A tank can be cycled by filter cloing and adding an ammonia source.

All the best

I think that was another myth covered by the TFF newsletter...which I can't find atm -_- .
You can't say "it's okay, it'll only grow to the size of the tank" with any fish but with things like goldfish (most of the time) you can still say "it'll only grow to the size of the tank", it's just not OK...

Btw, from that myths page "disturbing these anaerobic pockets can have disastrous results for your aquarium" - there was a thread somewhere that debunked this idea, if I recall correctly the gassed are made harmless on contact with the aquarium water.

It also seems to imply goldfish aren't messy fish "[myth:]Goldfish are messy fish", which is a little misleading to say the least.

There is no evidence of a fish having its skin and bones stop growing while the organs keep growing. A paper from bignose pointed out that a stunted fish's organs were just as a healthy fish's organs would be.

While extremes as you point out won't occur, many fish do seem to stay smaller in smaller tanks. The overall long term effects are not greatly known, so it is hard to include it on a list of myths.

We had a myth list before, but it didn't go well as many people don't like to have their views challenged.

how about a myth voting thread for the ones that dont go well? see who agrees with each side of the argument for and against the myth, and see what evidence people come up with :) at the worst it'll still make an interesting read!

I agree goldfish are big waste producers, I've kept them.
Yes a poll would be good if someone want to start the poll.
