Listed the fish I would like to put in my new tank once its cycled. It's a 300L, 80 Uk Gallon tank, 48" long by 27.5" height and 18" depth.
It is my intention to put them all in if I can source them in groups of 3's.

Maylandia Crabro
Maylandia Greshakei
Maylandia Red Zebra
Maylandia Callainos (cobalt blue)
Labidochromis Caeruleus
Labidochromis Hongi
Pseudotropheus acei
Hero Efasciatus

Any thoughts? Please keep them clean.

Looks a good mix to me. The only problem i can see is the Hongi, mixing them with Caeruleus is risky as they are from the same species and Hongi are more aggressive than labs who could suffer. In addition, Hongi are similar in appearance to Greshakei, which could also cause conflict.

Might be worth substituting them for something else, just a thought. Albino Socolofi would look good and should be compatible.

:)

 LMAO he called us EXPERTS

I got a problem with the crabro. HUGE aggression issues there pal, more so then the others but they will also be nasty buggers.

sorry ferris but I differ with you on this one.

not such a good group IMHO

10-1 says that the Greshakei, not the Crabro boss that tank! :p

LOL I knew it. Right first I am female so you can drop the 'mate'

Prepared to drop the Hongi on your advice ferris but not so keen on the Socolofi. Any other suggestion?

I have read so many posts on these fish that someone will always come up with 'ah you don't want to get that fish mate it will be too agressive' then someone else come up and says 'nah it's the so and so you wanna watch out for, that one was okay in my tank'. They are agressive, no? so it's up to me to prepare my tank with plenty of hidey holes to give them all the best possible chance.

I've ended up with this combination because a) I wanted brightly coloured fish and B) they like hard water which we have here. But I am always open to suggestions but having bets on who will take over the tank isn't that helpful tbh. Thanks for all sensible replies.

:D

Cheffi, your list is almost the same as the fish i have here.Check my sig.

I bought all mine from juveniles and so far had no bother from any of them. :)

TBH Dave I checked out quite a few posters lists and I do believe yours was the one that I liked all fish from. Oh well we will see what happens as no two tanks and fish will react in quite the same way I suppose. :)

There are loads of other options but another of my favourites are Cynotilapia Afra.

The other point i forgot to mention is that if you are going for trio's of these fish, try to avoid getting more than 1 male of each species, this will help cut down on the agression a little.

Just wondering ferris if that is why you seem to have singular types of fish?

Pretty much, I have never wanted to breed Mbuna and particularly want to avoid the heightened aggression that comes with this, they are aggressive enough.

Also from a purely selfish point of view, i love the variety! :D

Now you have posed a question for me. I was pondering on the breeding question myself. I also do not want to breed so would you recommend then that I only purchase one of each variety, which allows more variety? Is there a chance that even if you don't have two of the same variety they might still breed? :-(

Mbuna can interbreed but it is pretty rare, you should be fine if you avoid mixing fish from the same species like Labidochromis or fish that look very similar like Demasoni and Elongatus.
