My Platies Just Arnt Breeding

thanks for the advice you to, and i am adding a new female anyway, so as ive said about 62 times lol.
Thanks everybody.

Well i have just gone to have a look at them and i have noticed that the female is following and staying close to him, is this a sign of mating.
Also i havnt mentioned that i introduced them to a new 12 gallon tank yesterday.

this is what i experienced when my guppies are trying to mate
male will display, you will see all fins fully open then he will follow her around nuzzling her bottom then get along side but slightly below her and try to mate

the female is folowing the male everywere literally.
But he keeps swimming off and she keeps following and rubbing and touching him.
:D

the male goes to the side slightly but he doesnt seem to be that interested really.
Its like the female is doang all of the chasing lol and the male is swimming off but going back to her ever so often.

well i got up this morning and they was completely apart from each other.
could this be a sign that they have now bred. :/

:good: Sounds like you may have fry soon! :good:
I have some Mickey's too. I love that marking! I don't get many surviving fry as they are in a community tank. As it's impossible to keep platies from getting pregnant I feel it's the best way. Platies are common round here and the lfs can no longer take the fry they are offered I don't try to breed anymore.
If I see fry then I will seperate them and feed up to a size where they'll survive the larger fish and at the moment have several at various ages. these will replace aging fish and the tank is currently under-stocked! I've also several youngsters in the tank who made it without my help!
Good Luck, raising yours!
read the stickies on how best to breed for all the advice you need!

good news everybody last night i saw my platies breed. :hyper:
however i have been wondering, that can males ever miss the females with there sperm?
they were breeding because his gonopodium fin was going crazy and pointing towards her and then he chased her turned over and quickly turned over and put his fin in her.
does this mean that i could have babies soon, or could he have missed and not got the females vent with his sperm?
oooo gosh this is getting exciting! :yahoo:

i have just added a plant to the tank so if she is pregnant, then the fry will have a little place to refuge. :D
P.S. a real plant, so its good for the fry and the fish. :good:

i have noticed that the female has gotten ever so slightly fatter. :good:
could she get a tiny bit fatter at this stage or am i seeing things. :S
