Hi to all,

Just wondered what you all thought of my tank stocking as I would like to add some more.

Tank is 30 x 12 x 15
88 liters or 19g

Decoration is bog wood, little castle, ceramic shipwreck, plastic and real plants. Will be replacing plastic plants with real when they arrive. Substrate is gravel
All water fine tested at home and at the lfs.
It has filter, light, and heater set at 28c which is roughly 82f

At the moment I have

1 x male guppy
3 x female guppy
5 x neon tetras (surprise present wouldnt of picked they but hey!)
2 x gold sucking loaches
6 x endler (?) fry
1 x apple snail

I was wondering could I add 4 x cherry barbs, and 4 x golden barbs or would that push me over the edge, also are all the fish compatible, I just want a nice quite community tank.

many thanks all input gratefully received. :good:

you could add a small group of cherry barbs but you will have to keep an eye on water quality because it's a small water volume. Golden barbs get too big for that tank.
The gold sucking loaches could be a problem if they are gold chinese algae eaters.
The livebearers come from alkaline water whereas the neons come from acid water. Try to keep the PH close to neutral (7.0) and they should all be fine.

I would add some more neons and thats it since they like to be in 6 groups and up.

what problem could I have with the loaches, they were just advertised as gold sucking loaches in the lfs which were sold as an algae eater. oh dear.

they will grow big and will become very territorial and very aggressive!
also they stop eating any algae as they grow older
i would get rid of them now if i were u and maybe get a bristlenose catfish as these are great peaceful algae eaters and only grow to 6inch max.

So do you think thats what I have got, they are goldy yellow in colour, very slim streamline in shape about 2 inches long and whiz about the tank up and down the glass, god knows how ill catch them to take them back. I just wanted a nice peaceful community tank, and at the moment its all going great.

My friend bought the same thought of thing but they were brown with like a stripy dappled color would they be better for my tank. They were advertised just as algae eaters.

Sorry to go off the subject of adding something else but now im worried, only had them about 3 days at the mo so hopefully the lfs would take them back.

if your gold ones are the same as your friends brown variety then they are gold algae eaters and will cause problems in the future. You can keep them for a bit but when they get bigger they become a bit of a nuisance.
