My New Filters Here, Help Needed.

As the title states my new filters here as the one that came with this tank stops and starts. When it stops the ammonia spikes up
So at the moment in the tank is the old aqua one filter which does upto 40 litres from my old tank-it's been running since november and the filter which came with my new tank which has been running for a month.
I am unsure of where to put the sponge from the aqua one filter in this new fluval one. There's no space. These pads are skinny and in plastic cases. There is a gap in the middle which has a blue box with white tablet things in it. Can someone advise me how to transfer my old media.

I would take the carbon pads out, as you don't need them, then chop up your old media and put that in it's place.

Don't forget to take the white biomedia out of it's bag!

I took the casing off one side. This is how it goes together.

The old filter sponge is thick, can I just cut it long ways to fit it into this case? Will that work?

So if I take the 2 black bits out, and chop my old filter sponge long ways - it should squeeze in either side!

yes, that will work, its just a sponge, cut it to fit, same for the other side, then in the middle blue box, open that up, take out the new media inside, and stuff even more of your old sponges in it. all filters do are suck in water and throw it out again. as long as your old media is jammed inside it, the bacteria will thrive on the passing water, not much more to them.

ok,iv got 1 of these filters,what i did is i threw the carbon pads away,i had media in the fluval 4 i was using,cut the sponges down to size and them white tablet things,are ceramic rings i took them out and replaced with another sponge that worked for me

Ok so i've packed it out

It was horrible what a mess.
I put it in and it's incredibly quiet plus I only have one running now. I set it to option "B" the integrated spray bar.
"Provides even gentle flow for planted aquariums" - my fish are going flying it's still a bit strong but I think it's the best option. I will test the water tomorrow to see if it's working ok.

What the yell have you done here? You shoupd have left it how it was!. You do need the black bit that you got told to take out. Its the most important part. The white carbon filters out big bits of debri such as plants and mainly uneaten food! The black bit doesnt let dirt through. It only lets water and bacteria through. As for the blue box with white things in. You need to take the white things out of the case and put them back in the blue box that goes in the middle. Those white things are where all the healthy bacteria live. The way you have done this is shocking to tell you the truth! I get the idea you ate unsure of how filters work so i have explined this the same way i would a child. If you need more technical help just ask.

I'm sorry to have to disagree with aonther member (but I'm going to anyway!). The OP has done the right thing. Leaving the filter as it was would mean they had an uncycled tank.

At least some of the old media must be used if you're changing filters and removing the old one.

Deftuch-No I didn't know how to fit the old media in that's why I asked the question and the other members answered it for me. If I need technical help i'm sure you will be there to give me an answer. Just like if you need help with spelling or grammer I can make simple tests up. Just give me a shout

Are you for real? Half of that advice and information you have just given is complete tosh..and as for 'explaining this the same way i would a child' i believe you need to think long and hard about how you approach your stance on giving out advice and information (IE; getting it correct in the first place would be a good start) !!!
