Hey
After near 5 months I have not had a pregnancy in my mollys. I have 110 litres with around 18 mollys (dalmation, black, gold and white.). The ratio of male to female is fine I think, around 6-7 of them are male while the rest are girls. All of them range from 4-6cm.
I do have a 8cm redtail shark who doesnt bother them, 2 catfish who barely ever come out, and a platy an swordtail aswell.
They do seem to be doing 'the buisness' but with no results.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Why do you want fry if you already have 18 mollies :S you should be grateful, you could end up with hundreds!

you are already fully stocked for that tank size, so as above....you don't really want any fry.

I would suspect that shark would enjoy any fry should they appear.

Fully stocked, or somewhat over-stocked, IMO.

When you say you've not had any pregnancies, are you saying that you've never seen any fry, or you've never seen any of your females get bigger in the stomach? I would be truly amazed if 14 or so mollies had failed to become pregnant in a tank with 6 or so males.

It would be logical to assume that the females are indeed becoming pregnant, but that all the fry are being eaten. Leaving aside the shark, the mollies will eat their own fry anyway.

Welcome to our forum -CmaC-.
Cover, cover, cover. With 18 hungry mouths in a tank each drop will have one predator for every 2 fry. If you don't have very good cover you will never see any fry. Try a nice big clump of java moss.

hi cmac..could you add some pictures..usually that can only happens if the female mollies are quite old..and that also the same as to other livebearers like platy's, swordtails, guppy's..other fish become deformed after giving their last birth of fry or never got pregnant at all due to age..i may advice that when buying your fish consider these factor if you still want your fish to breed.
