Hi,my green fire tetra are literally attacking my male dwarf dwarf gourami, they use to just chase him ,but now they`re attacking him ,i don`t think it`s all five of them ,just the biggest one, have noticed a cut on the top of him ,there are hiding places in the tank but it`s still happening,if it`s the colours why aren`t they attacking my glowlight tetra ,and what do i do?

i would put the attacking one into a small box and float it on top of the tank. Then care for the Gourami and train him how to kick butt

What kind of advice is that?!

You may find the bullying stops if you increase the numbers of the Tetra's. Or you could take the bully back to the shop and come out with 2 new ones :D

well i do that until it goes eith back to the shop or in the pond as a tasty treat for the catfish. Normally they calm down within half an hour and they are released. Worked for my red platy - he kept chasing andd nipping a female so i left him in the fry net for half an hour with the one he ususally hates. now they are fine.

Try upping the tetra numbers, they may not feel safe enough in only a group of 5.

+1 if any schooling fish causes issues up their numbers and they become to het up with their own hierachy that they forget about the other fish.

Thanks for your replies but i haven`t room for any more fish as most of you know, lol,i did have 6 green fire tetra ,but 1 mysteriously dissapeared.Up to how many ,any way?

But was always advised that to have tetras in groups of 6 would be fine,my glowlights are no problem.

A minimum of six purely because they are shoaling fish. Personally I'd never go lower than 12, ideally. Glowlights are very peaceful. Some tetras are shy. Some are nippers. Some are downright mean. The higher the numbers, the better. The shy ones get more confident, the more feisty ones keep it among themselves. If you can't add more, take them back and up your glowlight numbers, they'd appreciate that.

But clearly they are not fine in this case. Each set of fish are different and have different personalities. And you have a group with one attacking another bigger fish, and has been explained to you the reasons probably why it is. So you now have to choose who to take back to the shop. That is the hard side of being a fish keeper.

But what solution can you advise me of in the meantime ,and what if the shop won`t accept them back as i`ve had them for about 5 months?

Get a bigger tank.
Sell them online.
Get another tank.
Ask the shop if they will help, if they good and have space they should.
Give one species away free.

In the meantime the tetra will kill my gourami, thanks.
Haven`t got space for a bigger or extra tank either, easy to advise, but my tank isn`t overstocked anyway.

Try your luck at the LFS and ask to swap them for some glowlights.

Do you have a spare tank you can put the gourami in?
