The unfortunate (or not) dither fish

Yesterday, I caught and removed the tetras, and within 2 hours, I saw the most intense spawning displays out of the Cichlids since their failed attempt. Will change work?
I know that many dwarf cichlids live in large groups. Only during spawning season do these groups break up into pairs.

Perhaps the cichlids misinterpreted the group of tetras and thought, "It's not spawning season, let's wait until the others start."

To me 'dither fish" lets shy species know it's safe to come out, feed & play. "Feeder fish" means catch me if you can, we're tasty bites. Not the same.

That's what "dither fish" means to me too.

Have a rainbow shark in a tank and I never see it, keep it with African cichlids and it comes out just like any other fish. The cichlids are the dither fish.
