My Fluval Edge Tank - With Fish!

Day 25: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.0 / Ammonia: 0ppm / Nitrite: 0.00ppm / Nitrate: (Did not test) *** Dosed 1.25ml of Ammonia

Ammonia & Nitrite have been processed again,so upped the dosage back to 1.25ml Ammonia which gives me roughly 5ppm.

Will test tomorrow morning, so see how quick the ammonia/nitrite is being processed.

Happy Days! :hey:

Great stuff, looks like it is almost time to get excited!

Day 26: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.0 / Ammonia: 0.5ppm / Nitrite: 0.25ppm / Nitrate: (Did not test)

Ammonia & Nitrite haven't completely processed but nearly. Dosed back up to 5ppm

How long is it taking to get down from 5ppm?

Prior to the Nitrite spike it was less than 24 hours, but now it seems to be back at 24 hours at present.

Maybe the ammonia dropped to 0ppm long enough for some of the bacteria to die, therefore taking you back a small step.

Possibly.

Maybe it's one of the side-effects of reduced Ammonia dosing during the Nitrite spike perhaps.

That's a good point. Is there a good reason to drop the ammonia dosage apart from increased Nitrite whilst the Nitrite munching colony grows? Doesn't it make sense that less ammonia = less a-bacteria that will eventally produce less Nitrite hence less n-bacteria? From reading logs it seems everyone seems to have a similar issue.

The only reason I know of for reducing the Ammonia while the Nitrite spikes is to keep the Nitrate level down.

Whether this is counter-productive with regards the n-bac dying off I'm not sure, but it might have put me back a little. More experienced members might be able to add their thoughts on this.

Day 27: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.0 / Ammonia: 2.00ppm / Nitrite: 0.00ppm / Nitrate: (Did not test) - Ammonia hasn't completely processed. *** Dosed back up to 5ppm

Nitrites are being processed within 24 hours, however the Ammonia isn't. Seems the bacteria has had a bit of a set back.

Will re-dose to 5ppm again tonight & leave another 24 hours.

Good job :good:
You'll get there in the end!

Just have to hope the step back is only small :)

Houston we have a problem...

Day 28: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.2 / Ammonia: 4.00ppm / Nitrite: 0.00ppm / Nitrate: (Did not test) *** Ammonia is not being processed within 24 hours.

Nitrites are being processed fine, however the Ammonia isn't. Prior to the Nitrite spike the Ammonia was being processed fine every day without fail. Since reducing the ammonia while in the Nitrite spike it seems that the A-bacs have either become lazy  or have died off.

Worse case scenario is that I'm back to square one with the ammonia, which will be a real pisser.

Day 29: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.0 / Ammonia: 4.00ppm / Nitrite: 0.00ppm / Nitrate: Between 80-160ppm *** Ammonia is not being processed within 24 hours.

Did not dose any ammonia yesterday as it was still at 4.00ppm.

Ammonia is still at 4.00 ppm today. No ammonia is being processed.

Has my ammonia cycle reset to the beginning since the Nitrite spike?
Has the reduction in ammonia dosing to 2.00ppm during the Nitrite spike caused the A-bacs to die off?

:-(

Hard to say Gaz, but from reading these forums everyday for the last few weeks, (mostly the cycle threads), it seems that EVRYONE has an issue at some part of their cycle. What works for 99% of people seems to be the waiting game. Even if your A Bacs are having a long weekend, the positive thing is that the N Bacs are going good.

I'm the same Warehouse. Read every thread and digest as much info as possible. Really thought I was getting closer to the finish line, but I did mention it'd be too good to be true! LOL

Hopefully there'll be some ammonia processing tomorrow as it's a patience tester for sure!
