I disagree, there is enough space for both species and as long as there are caves for each species at different ends of the tank is should be fine. Not to mention the tank is very heavily planted and Keyhole Cichlids are very peaceful
I think its silly to risk it. If they breed they wont tolerate having other dwarf cichlids around or other bottom dwellers like corys. IMO i would go for a pair of keyholes or 4 (1m, 3f) Apisogramma. A pair will beat the #105### out of the loner in a much bigger tank than that, recently had it happen in one of mine so had to separate the pair off from the rest.
Never had a problem keeping the two species together, in my experience, it is the other way, if anything. Keyholes are normally very shy and don't see the cockatoos as "direct" competition.
When I have had both breed in the same tanks at the same time (and alongside Corys), I can't say that they were in any way violent. Maybe you have had a bad experience?I think its silly to risk it. Yeah I know thats why both Keyhole and Cockatoo should have a cave on the extremes of the tank which becomes its territory. Neither fish is going to go to the other side of the tank to the other species area just to annoy the parents with the fry. Also, the Cory issue, I wouldn't worry. Corys tend to mind their own buisness. And the parents are there to defend their fry, just like they would from other fish in the wild.I think its silly to risk it. Keyholes usually spawn on open sites
They may do but Keyholes love to hide in caves and that is where they mainly stay (in my experiance at least)Keyholes usually spawn on open sites
