Just out of curiosity, what, in your opinion, is the meanest, toughest new world cichlid in domestication? Granted, it's not something I'm looking to buy, but it's just something that I've been curious about for some time

It's a female Nicaraguan Cichlid - plenty of attitude (even when young) but not quite the same league as the others mentioned so far, although mine thought she was!

It's a female Nicaraguan Cichlid - plenty of attitude (even when young) but not quite the same league as the others mentioned so far.

Yeah that was Elsie my Nicaraguan, she died a few weeks ago Got a new baby now though, a little female about 2.5 inches atm but still taking on 8 inch Geophagus. They are nightmares of fish as they are quite aggressive and always start fights but cant take anything back so the second the other fish fights back you dont have long to react before things take a turn for the worse.

Not always some males carry some blue but get much bigger than females and have patterned fins but its mainly females that have the colour.
