My First Tropical Tank

A nice setup there, the only thing I would say is change your substrate if your getting cories there are better off on a sand substrate. As with gravel it wears down their barbles, and they find it hard to forage in gravel too. Use Childrens Playsand, just make sure its well washed through.

I would suggest you get some nice looking bories such as sterbai as they will continue the orange theme, as they have orange on their pectoral fins. or Orange Lazers but they are expensive XD

Keep it up, a nice tank so far

Well i got albino Cory's in the end - the other varieties didn't seem to have that wow factor - they seem okay they are really really tiny though probably only about a cm in length! - guess they are young at the moment...

As for sand - i wanted to get sand but i asked which substrate to get and the shop adviser said gravel for my tank - i can see you point about foraging i may make a large patch at the front of the aquarium with sand - it's hard to maintain though isn't it - i have visions of disaster when trying to vacuum clean it?!

the dirt just sits on top of the sand so you can get a net and scoop it off. it is a pain though but looks much nicer than gravel.

Okay i suspected so - i think i will hang onto the gravel for now - - and possibly in the future move onto a Marine tank (a nano) and try my hand at sand at that point.

Thanks though :)

Looks, amazing. I hate coloured gravel, but yours works. I have the same ornament and my angel fish keeps getting stuck inside it. Also i love the platys, they are hardy and cute. Also i have a gravel bottemed tank and a sand bottom tank, by far the gravel is eayser to clean. You can just stick the syphon in and it gets loads of dirt out. With the sand if you try to clean it it gets messed up, dirt particals go everywhere, the tank goes cloudy. One day i stuck the syphon in the sand, and the amount of dirt that came out was crazy. Also i have albino corys in my gravel tank and for the last year or so they have been fine, even spawned. If i could i would have got gravel from the start, for me the maintenance is 10 times eayser. But anyway the tank is FAB-U-LOUS. Male and females will equil fry in no time. Expect 30 ish babies every month from each female. Thats the only down side the millions of babies, a few is nice but trying to raise 100s at a time can be a big drain. Also make sur you, have fun with it.

   yet cant tell much...no one can be that shy with a gf looking over his shoulder ...sorry pd, i tried my best for u.

this lady confuses me - i like to think of myself as pretty quick off the mark with quips and metaphors but i really don't get it - all this miss wiggle - big ian, 'ordinary moment' was off the film The Way of the Peaceful Warrior and how it relates to miss wiggle and big ian i don't know lol

The lovely Miss Wiggle and BigIan are forum members who live together. When she is at work they both end up on the forum and chat as if they were at home together. Lovely couple and it's great reading their threads.
I think people want to know are you single and are we going to end up with another couple on here? :hey:
