Hi Guys

Here is a pic of my first planted community tank. one week after planting up. It is a work in progress, and I definitely would like more plants, (Lighting is 2 x 30W on 30 G).

Please can I have some constructive criticism, suggestions and or opinions.

Also plant suggestions (not intending to add C02 at the moment).

Thanks for any help
Regards
C

PS Small Aquaflow filter is not main filtration (just cycling it) Filtration is External Eheim Pro 2324
Plant Substrate is Tetra Complete under sand, although will be adding additional ferts

the vallis will fill up the back corner pretty quickly but you could replace some of it with Hygrophilla polysperma.
You could put some pygmy chain sword (Echinodoras tenellus) at the front. It is a small low growing plant.
Maybe add some Rotala macranda to provide some red colouration to the back or side.

Thanks Colin. I will look up those plants. I too thought some red would be good to add some depth and colour.

Hi,

Any other suggestions anyone  I do have some good ideas to improve (but from another forum) lol

I think so far it looks great! :good: It may be worth adding some type of short shrubby plant in the front or have a moss covered rock or add some java moss to the bottom of that piece of wood. I'm not a huge fan of completely carpeted tanks, but I think it looks nice to have a little here and there.

What are those sand called? I'd like to buy 'em but I don't know where, or what they are called. :(

very nice... looking great!

keep on top of everything and you will see amazing results.. but it is looking fantastic

Thanks Carter. The tank in your sig looks brilliant!!

I do have some ideas going forward. One is some sort of creeping plant that would grow on the bogwood, maybe not moss, but something leafy. Some smaller plants in the foreground, and one of two larger darker/red plants to hopefully give some definition.
