Hi, good evening!

I'm fairly new to fish-keeping. This is my third fish, Vodka. He is a male betta (like my previous two) and ever since I got him he was very active and curious. He would always be aware of everything going on around the tank and would rush to the food whenever I fed him. However, a couple of weeks ago he started being less active and started not eating at all. I found that very weird and five days ago I saw him swimming very oddly. I've been keeping an extra close eye on him ever since then and turns out sometimes he'd literally float sideways. Today I saw him floating as if he was dead but when I moved towards the tank he "came back to life" and swam back to his usual hiding spot now, behind the water heater.

I also saw that he's slightly bloated on the sides and bottom. What could it be? Could it be his swimming bladder or dropsy? What can I do to help him?

He's about a year old and his tank is a filtered, 10 Gal tank with a heater. He's also the only fish in the tank.

Thank you!
-Alex

70% water change is always the best place to start

fish first aid: do daily 75% water change, add aquarium salt to your tank.
