I've just found out that I'll be out of town for a week during the holidays, and nobody will be around to take care of my fish... So I have to take him up to a friend's house...What is the best way of moving him without stressing him out too much?...Any help would be appreciated.

Well my first question is, what is your betta in? You usually don't have to worry that much about moving a betta from one place to another. They're generally pretty easy going about that :).

God Bless,
Joshua

Right now I have him a 1gal bowl. But I'm going to take him a good distance so that someone can watch after him. I'm just worried that now moving him such great distances would unduly stress him.

Empty and clean his bowl as if you were doing a water change
Put your betta in a bag that is 1 part warm water, 2 parts air, seal the bag, enclose the bag in a polystyrene box or small box surrounded by newspaper shreddings and use a heat pack.
Take your fish and it's bowl, and all equipment, to it's new home. Remember to pack a heatpack for the journey home again too :D

MermaidMel's advice sounds great, but I'm not sure if the heatpack is really necessary. Do you keep him in a heated bowl? I'm guessing your car has a heater so it should be about the same as his normal room temperature. Even if you do heat his bowl, putting him in a styrofoam cooler should keep him nice and warm for a long time, especially if you bag him up with a lot of water.

Bettas usually do really well with moving, especially if they're still going into their old bowl or tank.

I don't keep him in a heated bowl, we have an outdoors wood furnace, and my room is right by the vent, so, both my room and his bowl stay nice and comfy. He will be going back into his old bowl when we drop him off.

So..I'm curious, should I keep the water from the bowl before the move? Or do a 50% or 100%change when I drop him off?
