Hello peeps.

Im moving house in a week and would like some advice on how to transfer my fish.
Tank is only 26L and have 5 fish in it so not big but don't have any fish keeping friends that could look after them while moving.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You could get some baggies from your LFS, put fish with their tank water into them and transfer that way.
Or put them into a bucket with tank water (preferably with a lid and maybe a battery operated airstone).

Then (hopefully) you can bring them to your new house (congratulations by the way) and hopefully put them in their new 170-200l tank.

If there isn't a new big tank for them (nor one in the near future) then perhaps on the way you'll want to make a stop at the LFS and give them the fish so that they can go to proper homes.

Good luck and be sure to post pics :)

Stop feeding your fish a couple of days before the move. This will mean they have empty bellies and less fouling of the water during the transfer.

Main advice is dont panic, moving a 26 liter tank is reasonably simple.

Just remember to keep the filter media wet and make the tank the priority to get on as soon as you get in the new house. The fish can stay in the bags upto a few hours as long as you get enough air into them.

In addition to the advice to keep the media wet, also don't leave it anywhere that can overheat, even for a brief period of time. On the last lengthy move I did, I remembered to take the fish out of the car right away whenever it was parked for any length of time, but I forgot to do the same with the media at one stop. It didn't think it had even gotten all that hot, but it was enough to kill the biological filter and create a horrendous stench.
