Moved Light Position

I made a sort of shelf to hold my light. The light is a tad small for my tank length wise, so instead of having it sit on my glass on the top of my tank i made the shelf. I raised it about 3 inches and the tank does look a bit darker....how does this affect my tank? will it be bad for the corals who need the most light??
