i have no idea wots been going on im my tank but student life is not good for fish. i fear that my water changes are going to become more of a monthly occations (i've oversized my filter) but the main thing is ove lost some of my glowlights and shrimps (both kinda). any i dea wot caused this the water is fine and there's no sign of desease

Unfortunately the biggest most high-tech filter/heater system single-handedly will never be a enough to maintain a healthy, prosperous aquarium. The tank needs the due care and commitment of a true hobbyist aswell, and unfortunately, it sounds like you cannot cater for the fishes needs a demands.

I suggest you re-assess your situation, perhaps try and get a family member/friend to monitor and look after the tank while your away.

If you can I would not let the water changes exceed more than two weeks apart. Being busy with school, etc... is understandable, but you also need to make sure to watch your fish. Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate are only some of the items that get into water between water changes that can harm your fish.

Having a good filter, oversized, will help. You should also consider adding some live plants to help make sure the Nitrates stay low.

As for your missing fish, you said you have an oversized filter any chance they accidentally went in it? Also, if something was wrong and they passed on it could be that the other fish cleaned up the remains so you may never find them. :-(

and no1 has managed to explain how my fish dissapeard.
You've not given anyone a chance. :sly:

There are no signs of disease at all other than the sudden loses? Maybe consider it could be an internal bacterial infection, these can have no symptoms.

Tjimbsoj, thats kinda harsh... you shold be banned. i havent seen anything come from you that helps anyone in any way. im sorry if im ading to the fire but i haveto say that for no reson at all you single handedly drag everyone down.... even me! and you and i have never even spoke.

im not worried about voicing my opinion becuse of how often you post your often rude and nastie comments.

sorry to anyone this has offended

IMO you need to change betwen 20%-40% of your water a week. i do 20% bi-weekly. also when ever i change my water i try to vacume up as much fish poo/uneaten food as i can.

how often have you been doing water changes??

And I suppose that's not at all harsh?

Different people need to do different number of changes. Some people get such a good system going that they need never change water. I change water fortnightly (2 weekly) - monthly and my fish are grand but this is because my tanks are understocked and planted, also the tap water has low nitrAte.

it was harsh but do i not have a point? hey im sorry i try to be as friendly as i can in these forums and i hope i didnt give you the wrong impresion..... if you asked for help and some one basicly told you that you suck at keeping fish wold you ever want to came back and ask for help agan??

and agan sorry to fuel the flames......

No, I don't really think you have a point to be honest. I think Tjimbsoj was just being honest and I am sure TJ is not offended by it, perhaps he does not have the time any more.

Saying someone should be banned on very shaky, subjective grounds seems pretty harsh to me which is exactly what you were accusing Tjimbsoj of being.

Oh, and I don't think there are any flames. I think we should be honest and not so over PC all the time.

I'm the most sensitive person on the planet and even I could not find anything harsh in the post you're objecting to.As for adding fuel to the fire...there is no fire. It's just someone asking for help and other people offering advice.

The suggestion was that Trop might not have time to care for the tank alone and might need to ask for someone to help out.Nothing harsh about that.

Your post, on the other hand seemed very harsh indeed.Sometimes it's best to wait a bit before you fire off an angry post.Time solves a lot of problems before they ever get started :)

good advice, i do have a problem with doing just that.

ok im just gonna drop it. ive obviosly misinterpreted what TJ had to say.

The tank needs the due care and commitment of a true hobbyist aswell, and unfortunately, it sounds like you cannot cater for the fishes needs a demands

i guess some how i thought he was trying to say that this guy cannot cater for his fish. seems i must b crazy or somthing.....

The fire he was referring to has already been dealt with in other topics and is a null point. What I believe of the comment made is a null point also, what is important is that we help this person.

I think cheese specialist made the best recommendation without even outright saying it:

change water fortnightly (2 weekly) - monthly and my fish are grand but this is because my tanks are understocked and planted, also the tap water has low nitrAte.

I think Tropjunky should consider lowering the amount of fish in the tank and adding a good quantity of live plants. This will help deal with any waste, etc... and help make up for the lower amount of water changes till he is out of college.

Once he is out of college and has the time to put fully into the tank he could restock, etc... :)

I don't wanna inrerupt this war that some1 startd but Tjimbsoj does have a point but djdotnet can't read minds over the internet. Tjimbsoj could have been nicer and for god sake stop the fighting and halp me (sorry didn't mean to sound selfish but this is my topic and not a war zone)

right i tend to change the water every 2 weeks about 25Ltrs outa the 27.5Gl sorry but i use a barrel of RO water every time and it's £3.50 for 25Ltrs.
