Missing Fish ....

Hi there

I have "lost" a female emerald Platy. She was pregnant and it was her first pregnancy.
She disappeared for a few days, then one evening I saw her briefly amongst the plants ....
since then nothing.

It is at least 3 to 4 weeks since I saw her, and following numerous water changes and cleaning of
the substrate I am certain that she died and got gobbled up by her tank mates.

Normally if fish die, something gets left behind even if it is only half a fish .... though this complete
disappearance has happened once or twice before.

Has anyone else had a fish literally disappear, never to be seen again.

Sometimes bits are left behind, sometimes not.

I lost a female guppy, never found anything of her and she was fully grown and I've lost other fish, where the body was still in tact or body was half eaten.

Yes i've lost Tetra's in the past without trace. I suppose the bottom dwellers did their jobs, and got a good meal out of it.

Story:August 2010, 46 gallon bowfront tank; inhabitants at time was 11 serpae tetra, 6 yoyo laoch.

I added 6 angel fish on the Thursday. Four days later, at feeding time, I only saw 2, and one of them was dead. I scoured that tank from top to bottom, removing all plants and ornaments looking for bodies, I was still in my 7 day guarantee from my LFS on my fish, and my water stats were perfect, so I just had to find bodies to take in to get a refund/exchange. I found NOTHING. 4 Juvenille angelfish were completely gone from the tank. I took the 1 body back to my LFS and talked to the manager, explaining the peculiar situation. He ended up giving me store credit for 5 angelfish, despite me not having the bodies, because he's seen my tank and knows what I'm like with my fish.

The loaches at the time were barely an inch and a half long, and the serpaes were all smaller than a quarter. I have no idea how the heck they managed to eat 4 angels....

Had a baby Leopard Bushfish simply vanish in late summer from the group of five at the time, probably round about the time my Lionhead Cichlid pair spawned (who are the prime suspects given their aggression a little later on)
