2 of my large DT Females are missing. -_- They were full of eggs, and I was planning to breed them as soon as my current spawn is ready to go. :hey: I went to feed the girls in the 125, and realized that these 2 are gone. :-( My first thought was to look for bodies floating. Nope. Then I took a flashlight, and scanned the entire tank. All plants, and hiding places. :/ Nope. Then In case they could have jumped out, I looked all over. Under the tank, behind the tank, all over the floor. I can't find them anywhere. :S How high can they jump? The water line is 7 inches from the top of the tank. They can't possibly jump that high....can they? :dunno:

that's odd... once i had a betta jump... and i couldn't find him for about an hour... cuz i was searching near the tank.... but he ended up about 4 feet away...

Do you have any other animals in the house that could have carried them away :/ I know that sounds awful, but I know if I had one jump my dog would have it in a minute. Just look around really good, and like said before you might want to stray away from just close to the tank, as they can jump very far, not to mention flop once they are on the ground. Goodluck finding them and let us know how it turns out.

Yes..they can jump that high...if they really try. They also will flip and flop way away from wherever they happened to jump out of..trying to fidn water again (that's what wild bettas do..hop out of puddles and flop across the ground looking for a new puddle).

Also, if they died last nite and there are several fish in teh tank...a betta's body isn't "big" and can be consumed quite rapidly..depending on what type fish are in the tank with them.

Did you look in the filter?

They are in the kitchen. I had 11 Females, in the 125, and no other fish.
I keep the door closed, so cats, and dogs cannot get in. I have searched every inch of the kitchen, and tank. I am going to search again, for a third time. It has been 24 hrs since I looked at them. I am afraid that if I find them now, they will be dead. :-(

You said the tank is in the kitchen? Check under the refridgerator and the stove and counter. And if it was close to the sink they could have landed in the sink and went down the drain.

Other side of the room from fridge, sink counters etc. But I checked all those places any way. Except the sink. That would be silly :P . It is really driving me crazy. I really have checked every inch of the kitchen. With a flashlight too. I really hope that somehow they are just sleeping somewhere, and will be swimming around the tank tomorrow. I think I can see every inch of the tank. I even thought they may have been stuck in something.

I've heard some people say they found dead fish in the gravel, somehow they can bury themselves and die. So stir up the gravel and look in the filter. And look in nearby rooms also.

They can't get out of the kitchen, or under the floor. I even looked closely at the gravel. There are large rocks, and I don't think they could burrow through the gravel. I even looked to see if they got stuck between, or in a rock pile.

Did you look in the filter? And maybe they died and got eaten before you noticed they were gone. Or maybe your just missed them when you counted. :dunno:

because they breath air they can be out of water for quite a while. an hour tops before they die. if ur floor in nelolium then its very possible that they have moved a good distance away as there was no carpet to soak up the water and dry them out. coud it have been possible that they could have scammpered near where your cats or dogs can go? in that case they may have been gobbled up. check under stuff, perhaps they went under an appliance...

Well, they couldn't have been eaten, they were her bigger ones, and yes, check inside the filter, once, one of my Neon Tetras jumped into my filter once.

Not in filter, and I don't think they were eaten. I had a corry die a couple of weeks ago, and he wasn't touched. I looked for pieces, while searching the tank with the flashlight. These Females are full grown, and I just fed them last night. I would think it odd for them to go piranha and, be able to get rid of 100% of the evidence. My fav Metallic MG DT, and only Yellow DT, Females too :-(
My only other MG DT Female, is much smaller, and has one eye  She came that way from the breeder :o
