Minnnt's South American Puffer Tank

NO NO NO NO NO NO! Don't listen to these people and ruin this tank with neons. I love all of you guys. Keep the puffers, they are FAR more interesting. Neons are overdone and boring, just my opinion.

Tank is sweeeeet!

Thankyou all very much! :)

Liz why did you ask about ph and hardness earlier on in the thread? Got me worried now. Lol.

Because you mentioned that your vallis was left wanting. Did you mean that you needed more vallis or that it was doing poorly?

Vallis prefers harder water. At least that has been my experience.

Arh right. Unsure then. Is 14 gh hard?

I think it might be down to low light, but not sure. I grew it brilliantly under t8's, put it under t5's and its rubbish.

Slight change... Removed the wood on the right hand side of the tank as it was leeching alot of oils into the tank. Replaced it with Anubias Heterophilla and Anubias Barteri towards the front.

Also added Purigen to the filter which has improved the water no end.

Will hopefully be adding a few more pieces of moss covered slate this evening to extend the carpet more towards the middle. May also add a few small Cryptocoryne Wendtii Brown if i can pull a few out of my main tank. The Vallis is shooting some new leaves and i have removed a few of the older ones that had started to turn a little yellow.

A couple of phone pics so not the best, but not bad.

still looks great mate! :good:

is it this tank that you have used the Purigen on?

Lol. Yeah this one and my vicenza, but haven't got any new pics of that one yet.

The wood I removed is in the shrimp tank and they love the smingy stuff that it is releasing.

Tank is looking great as usual :good:

I have been debating using some Purigen on my tank but didnt know if it would be worth while, did you add it after removing the piece of wood or before? because if you added if after it could just be that now you have removed the leeching wood the water has improved.

you can see the clarity of the water has improved.

Might have to bleach mine, it's been in my tank for about 3 months now, although it doesn't matter what melts or dies back it filters out any excess ammonia well, I haven't had a diatom since and I had a massive melt after an excel over dose to clear BBA.

Its definately worked a treat. My other tank is crystal as you will see when I get some pics up. Just added another 10 pieces of moss covered slate.

The wood didn't leach into the water, it just grew white fluff but the surface was very oily. The other piece is also doing it, but not to the same extent.

LOL LLJ, I love how passionate you are, hehehe... Do you hate ALL neons or just the normal ones ? I saw some green neons in a tank the other day and they were quite stunning. Of course, I think minnnt should keep the puffers too
