Does restocking by plane work?
How many fish survive being dumped from that height and at speed?

"The department said aerial fish stocking in the Beehive State is an effective method of stocking that has been in use since the mid-1950s. It said post-stocking netting surveys show that survival of aerial-stocked fish is "incredibly high."

i asked my dad why he threw the fish back in the water when fishing his response was "I'm actully saving them because they get dropped from planes, so.."

This method seems a "wee" bit less stressful, to me, anyway

Helicopters are a lot more expensive to fly than fixed wing and have a much reduced weight capacity. Depending on the location there are three main methods used, truck based where they can drive up to the lake, this is the majority of the releases, fixed wing for distant lakes with good air approaches, helicopter for the most isolated lakes. Helicopters are particularly expensive because you need to transport the ground and aircrew to near the site first because the helicopter method is not efficient unless the cycle time is short. None of the methods use any sort of gradual adjustment, its open the valve and drop the fish. I participated in a number of releases and don't remember seeing any fish floating to the top.

Releases from aircraft, or from land-based vehicles?
