Hey, I'm just asking this so if and when any of my fish get ick or another kind of bacterial infection I will know what to do. Is there any way to medicate a tank for ick or other bacterial infection without killing off all of the beneficial bacteria in the filter?

Most medications will not hurt the biological part of your filter, (the bacteria).
When you go out and buy medicine, read the back of the bottle. Most times it will state whether the medicine is compatible with the biological filtration or not.
