Hi guys, ive got opportunity for filter media from a friend but the problem is its from brackish guppy setup will the salt migrate into my freshwater setup??

I don't know the answer to that. Obviously some salt would make it over but I'm not sure whether it would be enough to matter. The bigger problem would be that the bacterial species are at least partially different for salt and fresh, but for brackish there might be some overlap so I just don't know how it would turn out. Maybe some others would know better.

I would think a very small amount of salt would be transferred over.

If you do decide to get the MM, I would not just throw it right into your filter, instead acclimate it as you would do a fish.

Floating the MM, in a bag, in your tank and slowly add water to it over the course of an hour or 2. You could also do the drip method acclimation.

A healthy guppy tank is not very brackish in character so the chances are that the right bacteria will exist in that media. It would certainly be worth a try as a cycle starter for a fishless cycle.
