hey every1 i didnt know where to post this so here goes, i just got given a piece of mangrove root off a mate and he got it from some1 off the intrenet, and he has had it in his fish tank with discus's, and it was abit dirty (with moss) so i got out the high pressure cleaner and spent a good 20mins then poured about 2 litres of hot water over it. and it looked pretty cleaned.

so before i put it in the fish tank the ph was 6.8, i am hoping it will stay at that level . Will i be seeing any effects on my ph? and has anyone got any mangrove root in there fish tank that will be able to give me some exprinced information?

thanks guys i would like some answer before the weekend as i might be going to the shops :)

I have some in mine along with driftwood but haven't noticed a single bit of difference to my pH. My pH is quite high though at 7.8.

Its making the water quite tanned now, did it do that with your drift wood? And lowered the ph from 7.2 to 6.8-7 and if i just leave the tannis in the water will it disappear or will it
Stay there?

im just making sure when i setup my 300l setup inc sump i dont want to have to drain it all and keep replacing water due to my water getting to dark i cant even see the fish?

thanks

Tannins will stay in the water, only water changing can really get rid of it. Alot of people say use carbon in the filters but I have had no difference with tannins using it.

The only way to get rid of them is to take it out and soak the root in a seperate container/bucket.
