What is the general opinion on keeping only male guppies. I am not interested in breeding and have no where to put the fry if I was. Is this a bad idea?
If you have only males it will be ok. They will fight some though. If you don't want them scuffling at all you need to add females at least 2/1 preferably 3/1. Or you could go all female ,should be pretty calm then and no babies unless they are already pregnant when you get them.
you tend not to have any iddues at all. if one gets aggressive, he will dominate the tank so get rid of him but otherwise they are absolutly fine together. my nan used to have 11 all males together.
Depends on your fish. None of my males have ever eaten babies, but two of my females will feast on as many as they can catch... all the others don't give fry any attention.... so, in the end, I have a lot of fry (now have separate male and female tanks to control the population).
Just a note... my female tank is a lot more interesting to watch than my male tank... females are always darting and poking around... my males poke around less and are often showing off their splendor to each other.
This tank never has any dividers or such added although it has a bit of cover. Does that answer the possibility of breeding for you chigwellhammer? I pull about a dozen adults out of that 10 gallon tank every few months and sell them off.
