Right, got my 15g today. Only problem, no hood. I got one of the cheap ones (ridged plastic) in case the hood isn't done in time. The footprint is 18inx12in. It needs to be capable of holding moonlights ( the ones by garlicbread or however you spell it, they're on sticky pads), and possibly a normal bulb. I'mpretty bad at DIY, but my dad can kinda make things and my step-grandad is very good with wood and metal. Anyway, any ideas?

You are basically building a box, & skinning it with plywood, leaving a hinged area for feeding, & an enclosed area for lights. I have some construction photos of the one I built for my 65 gallon, I'll see if my pathetic computer skills will let me post a few. This is the frame.

This is with the dividers, lights go in the middle, The area to the left will get a hinged lid for feeding, the area to the right is open on the bottom for filters & heater.

This is with the top & side plywood installed

Oil base gloss white on the inside. After I put the 2' flouro fixture in the middle, I covered that area with a piece of plexi cut to size.

Aha! Thankee, its very nice :) I'll see if dads up to the job, if not I'm sure my step-grnadad can. He's great at things like this. Just to check, does it sit over the glass? Like, does it overlap the glass rather than sit on top of the rim?

It sits on the top ovelapping the rim a little, nothing under it but fish & water

Thanks a lot again :) I think I'll do mine in black, should go nicely with the moonlights, black sand and creepy albino fish ;)
