I think my Arcadia pendant is on the way out and I really can't afford a new Arcadia so will be buying a pendant without integrated timers (probably). I know that the standard mains timers you buy are not suited to the kind of load that 2x250w metal halides place on them, so can someone recommend and timer which is up to the job (UK)? (or failing that a super cheap metal halide unit with integrated timers!)

Thanks in advance.

whaat, i picked one up from wickes capable of over 2000Watts!

I'll upload a pic when i get home!

and you having metal halides running off it?

my understanding is that it's more about the internal switching amp rating rather than the wattage

this one handles up to 16amps which I think should do the job, but I'm no electrician: http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/195055

a ha!

this is what i was looking for:

Dont exactly know what metal halides are but i know that when starting the light i have blows anything except from a 13 amp.

Which is why i fitted it with a 5 amp time delay fuse.

I also know that this light unlike my previous one does not have a starter and takes a very long time reaching currents up to 14.5 for fractions of a second before dropping down to around 4 amps ac.
