What are your nitrate levels now, in your tank and from your tap?

I wish I could answer that but I'm not sure my lfs said that it is higher then usual as they used the strips and I would just like to lower it...it recently happened as all my water parameters have been more then good

The basic answer is water changes, although, of course, you won't be able to reduce it to lower than what's in your tap water.

I'd be tempted to get my own test kit if I were you - liquid, not strips. Search fleabay for Nutrafin test kits and see what comes up. Some nearly new ones kicking around for around £10 + p&p.

Its not much help a shop saying your parameters are out but not expanding on that to be honest and to able to test yourself is very handy.

I agree with Danny. Sounds like they don't really know what they're talking about, or don't know enough to explain it to someone else.

The general rule is your nitrates shouldn't go much above 20ppm above what comes out of your tap, but you'd need to have pretty darn high nitrate before it started doing your fish any damage.
