Hi, i have been treating my tank for septiciemia and av today lost a guppy. is it because it wasnt poorly but decided to treat all the fish.. it seemed happier than the rest all along. my harlequins seemed happier an perkier yesterday but not looking 2 clever today.. ph is 7.5, nitrite is 0.25 an ammonia is 0. i done a big water change 2 days ago, well bout 40%. i added some anti internal bacteria yesterday after the water change (interpet) No 9. i previously was treating with king british disease clear which ater reading various posts..now is for external NOT internal bacteria ..honestly LFS aargh!!!!

Help.....wilder?

You have a high nitrite reading so they will be off colour.
Water change, increase aeration in the tank.
Can you tell us what fish are in the tank so we can see if you can add some salt with the bad water quality.

I increased the aeriation in the tank like you told me 2 last time...i didnt know if i should do water change as i only added the proper meds yesterday, would that be ok to do? The fish i have in the tank is 1 angel, 1 red fin shark (which is the happiest i think) 1 cardinal, 1 whiptail, 1 apple snail, 2 harlequins, 1 guppy, 2 red eyes, (the red vein running tho them has definately decreased in a day).

Remove the snails if you can, all they will have to take there chances.
One tablespoon to 5gal, but I would only half dose the tank with the salt.
So one tablespoon every 10gals and add it gradually over time rather than one big dose.
Just want to check what a whiptail.

Will any salt do? will my apple be ok in the tank im currenly cycling 4 days into with nitrites, or will it survive out of the water like in a box or something. so if my tank is 65 litre, how much salt do i put in?

Wilder your a star!!

Just want to check what type of fish the whiptail is.
Just add one tablespoon of household salt fine in small doses.
Add the amount all at once, get a jug of tank water and stir till it disolves then add to the tank.
The snail in a box he will make a runner anyway.
Leave him in but keep an eye on him.

My whip tail is a kind of bottom feeder,,the guy in the lfs said he didnt know its name but wouldnt grow very big but was in a tank of plecs..i thought he was a kind of catfish he looks a bit like a long camoflaged long fish with a fin that pos up and down, it has like whiskers on its chip and likes to suck indivial bits of gravel.

That what I thought scaless fish and don't tolerate salt to well.
It should be ok with one tablespoon just keep an eye on him, as the water quality not good anyway, but salt helps when its bad.
Good luck.

Ok il give it a go...how long does it normally take to get thing sorted after something like this? i have just added a level spoon full of salt.. do i need to add anymore, also sould i still put the 2nd dose in tmrw and if so is this a daily salt add il they better?

Follow the instructions of the bacterial med, never cut it short it will just flare back up again.
Don't know how long it will take to get nitrite to 0, the med won't help but should only slightly knock it.
If you do a water change just add a teaspoon of salt back to the tank.

OK, so, tommorow i am going 2 this... water change bout 25%, the add second dose of meds, then add table spoon of salt....am i right?

Just add a teaspoon back with the 25% water change.

thanks.....i hope this will work.. incidentally, the fishless cycle im doin on my 240.....how will i know if they are well enough to join my new tank mates....or should i just stick wid the 2 tanks?

Once the fish look well and back to there old selfs, leave them in the old tank for another two weeks just to make sure nothing starts up again.
Fingers crossed they make it.

aw thanks wilder..by the way..i hope you didnt mind me pointing some noobs in your direction..i think you are brilliant ..you are top gal..even tho in previous post i referred to u as he im sooooooo sorry
