Looking For Advice

just got my first tank 22.4G and going through the water cycle process im just looking for advice on what types of fish would fit the tank in large amounts as in to set up a community tank with different types

It really depends on what sort of look you want to go for. While you are cycling the tank, I would take the oportunity to research fish, ie size and compatability, if you get stuck at all, there will always be some-one on here to guide you. Good luck

Hi thats what i have been doing my dream is oscars but i know a tank size like mine will not provide for even 1 so im looking at angels loaches etc as the water in my area is quite hard

What are the dimensions of the tank? A 22gal is unlikely to be suitable for an angel sadly.
But as for loaches you have quite a few to choose from depending on what sort of dimensions the tank is and the set-up you would like to go for.
Kuhli Loach, Chain loach, Zebra loach and Chinese Hillstream (aka Butterfly hillstream) are the first few that spring to mind.

Yup, it's no where near the height needed for angels. Do you know what types of fish you like? Is it cichlids imparticular or was it the shape/colour of the angels you like?

Any other fish? And have you had a look at the loaches I listed?

sorry 2 ft high is picture as my avatar (hard to tell from that i know) i love most chichlids i.e malawis oscars discus etc but my tank i guess from reading is too small for any so i basically just want a large selection of different fish

Hmm, could do with some definite dimensions then. Because a 3ft x 2ft x 1ft is 170l, and it doesn't look like a 2ft x 2ft x 1ft but even then that'd be 113l

Oh and also some colours and such that you like? And did you plan on having real plants...or fake plants...do you want an active tank of a calm tank...etc etc.
Anything that can help narrow down what sorts of fish to suggest.

Edit: Ah, thanks for the dimensions. Once you've replied to the extra bits above I'll have a think.

the mrs wants fake plants and a couple of rocks not too big in size as i know it takes a lot of space proper dimentions are above. For colours i love bright vivid i love the colours of the turk discus i have seen a few dwarf gouramis with the same markings/colours

Oh and just to check, what method are you following to cycle the tank? I know it might sound a silly question, but sometimes new keepers (sorry if that presumption is wrong) get a little bit mislead by fish/pet shops and sometimes even old text books.

nothing in the tank adding Waterlife Bacterlife Friendly bacteria to get rid of the amonia and got my eheim filter and heater running

Oh and fast tank or calm tank? Cause if you like the look of hillstream loach then you need a high flow rate from the filter to replicate the natural environment of the fish. But that would mean you needed equally suitable tank mates for them.

These fish would include things like danios and corys. But most small bodied fish will be ok with a decent current. As will some larger fish, but generally you need to avoid anything with long fins.

If you wanted something a bit slower then things like a male paradise fish might be a good idea, or as you said dwarf gouramis (though only get a single one as they can be very agressive), some of the dwarf cichlids might be ok too but considering you have hard water I'd probably suggest bolivian rams as a good choice.

Ah, that's not actually cycling the tank. And those bacteria things are a waste of money as they don't actually tend to do anything.

the bacterlife is just for seeding the filter the other pics are all i have in the tank and my external filter

It doesn't seed the filter. That's what I mean. I know it seems hard to believe that a product that has preumably been licensed for sale could be a complete con, but it is. It's the snake oil of the fish world.
