Longhorn Cow Fish

Tank stats please?

Seffie x
Cow fish now dead. Nitrate 0.4 Nitrite 0.1 Amm 0 Salt 1024. I have done a 75 ltr water change this afternoon and the clown and cardinal look much better. I called the help line fo the BSB treatment that I put n the tank

BSB treatment?

10 days ago and they said that the cow fish probably went into shock

why the heck would they sell a treatment that would put a fish into shock when used at the correct levels

when the chemical was introduced to the tank and the oxygen levels dropped which may have causeed him to to release his toxins, which killed himself and his tank mates.

It's possible, but again why would a chemical treatment cause a lowering of oxygen when it is designed for use in a marine tank

Just curious as to why the other two have survived so far. Would welcome yor opinion Seffie

It is unlikely the other fish would have survived if the Cow fish had released the toxins and they were in the water so long - I'm interested to know what this BSB treatment is, am I being dense!?

No I totally agree this is what is confusing me! The BSB treatment is by a company called Aquarium Doctor and has another reference of 1 TAP at the top of the box. It is a Bacterial Finrot Treatment which contains 5% Acriflavine and 5% Malachite. I called their helpline (01934 633 000) and that is what they told me, that it does slightly reduce the oxygen level as would any treatment but is completely safe for Marine and Invertebrates. The clown and the cardinal are still ok I think and are eating. Will do another big water change tomorrow as the skimmer still seems to be extracting green fluid indicaing some of the chemical and possibly I suppose toxins from the cow fish, if that's what has done it. Seffie is there any Companies out there who you can insure your marine tank and it's contents with? because I am now so scared and not sure whose advice to trust as to how to get back on track.
