Can platys be kept singly in a community?

a platy would proberly mix with them..

I have a 63l tank with 5 neon tetras and 3 honey gourami. I'm planning to get 6 dwarf corys and then finish off with one platy.

The gouramis should only get to about 5cm each and I've calculated if I get those fish listed above they'll total about 58cm when fully grown, so not too worried about being overstocked just didn't know if a platy would be happy on it's lonesome.

Watch him/her it will tell you by its actions better then we can.

The honeys will be fine and i have a lone platy in my 20gal shes fine and hangs round with gerry the lone guppy (they are the remanants of my mothers tank) not my cup of tea but they don't bother anyone and are happy so i'd say you'll be fine.

Your platy will be fine alone. I had a few which I bought as I read they should be kept in groups. I bought males which are supposed to be community peaceful fish as I didnt want them breeding like rabbits but they were all so aggressive to each other I had to get rid of all but one. I called him Barney and he was a pain in the butt but cheeky with it so you had to love him. He spent his entire time trying to mate with my black Phantom Tetras and made them so distressed that in the end I had to put him in my shrimp tank!

He was smart too. I tried to catch him but he escaped around behind my 3d rock background. He stayed around the back for hours just peeping round the side every now and then to see if I was there. When he eventually came out he saw me holding the net through the glass and ran off round the back again before I could even get the lid off!! After that every time he was being a pain id just get the net out and wave it at him and he would disappear round the back for a few hours giving my Phantoms a bit of peace!!

Just goes to show you cant always go by the book - each fish is an individual and may act differently from the norm.
